Why is it a flanvention?
Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
Nathan mispoke in an interview a long while ago and thanked "all the flans."
I am so out of touch.
Looked at the Angel thingy prices. Those are the most ridiculous prices I have seen that weren't on petroleum of some kind. Yeeka. I think I will skip all such events, thanks.
Dragon*Con, here I come!
I'm completely irrational. I'm so disturbed by this.
Also, if I was on the fence about doing the Serenity release party, I mean, this thing kills it altogether.
Can't compete.
I just don't like other people making these sorts of decisions for me, maybe.
How is that competition? Not that I'm trying to talk you in, but isn't a movie celebration very different from that?
Fans will save their money for a guarantee of cast.
That's why those events are expensive. They pay appearance fees, and your dinner/drinks are included. It's not like, gouging, you do get what you pay for if they do as good a job as they claim they can (I think the upcoming Angel event is their first).
I don't pay appearance fees, I don't guarantee cast.
I don't pay appearance fees, I don't guarantee cast.
I guess. I don't know fandom budgeting, but it'd seem to me that people who could never afford those fees would like to see each other around when the movie's actually coming out, even without the cast guarantee.
I would prefer the party myself. I mean, seeing cast would be great, but hanging out with buffistas and other true fans, plus going as a group to cheer and act stupid (in the best possible way) at the premiere and attend the opening, plus possibly getting to do stuff around LA with buffistas, these things sound much more fun to me. I don't know how much this is worth, though, because I don't know if I would be able to make either one.
I went to the Angel Flashback Weekend event last year, which was very similar to what this event looks to be. It was a bit pricey, but aside from a few organizational screw-ups it was well done. Really more of a convention-type event than the fan party weekends that Allyson, Maya, and the Bronze PBP committee put on. There was a dealer room, multiple panel discussions with the cast, autograph and photo sessions, and a Kane concert.
