Completely unspoiled speculation about why Book is so scarce in the trailer: He's grabbed by Reavers for "conversion" when a job goes south, and Mal feels responsible for finding him, to put him down, if nothing else.
Joss is a big fan of The Searchers, I think, so it would be a nifty variation, especially with Mal's attitude towards religion being so complicated.
As I said, just a total shot-in-the-dark guess.
eta The premise would work for Kaylee too, which would be closer to The Searchers, but I don't think she could hold out as long as Book could, given that he seems to have had some kind of military/police training.
I told my father I managed to get a ticket to the Chicago screening and he's rather jealous. Sometimes I think he's more obssessed with the show than I am.
I would be loathe to assume that the trailer is representative of much other than what its editors thought was cool. Kaylee could be in every single other frame in the movie, just that the editors were all over the River love.
Mal shot first.
Heh. I can think of several moments where they could pull this particular violation.
First off, this time, Patience's horse will take a shot at Mal...
I support blackfonted trailer talk.
"I support blackfooted trailer trash" -- um, no. Regional thing.
Dinosaur! And ittybitty palm trees!
Beverly, you have gotten too surreal, even for me, which is a whole lot of surreal.
Beverly, the link leads to a generic Buffy.nu image. I believe they're blocking outside links.
