Those car races are super loud.
Maybe they should have electric car races instead.
I expect/hope that once things start happening -- like people seeing the trailor -- and there is more of substance to discuss, we will discuss that instead of doing what we're doing now.
Well, I tend to respect Allyson's opinions (even when I don't share them - see also late BUFFY and ANGEL). She just seems to be dismissing SERENITY before the fact.
And praising THE INSIDE in the same capacity, but with a little more inside info. Hence the comparisons. If she's got inside info as to why she's so apathetic about SERENITY, that's a whole other thing, but I missed it if she posted it.
Does that make sense?
I think it would be more helpful to me if you told me what you think I know. If that makes any kind of sense.
Ree, you asked a question, if this was a worship thread. The answer is no, you were told it was not, and you seem to think that you got beaten up over it. This confuses me.
The fact of the matter is, if, say, I saw Serenity, and thought it verily blew, I could come and here and say so, and explain why. As long as I don't spoil the plot. And if my opinion is so important that it affects someone else's excitement, I'm baffled by the amount of power I seem to have.
I know what the concepts are, what the movie is about, how it looks, and it's no more interesting to me than say, Ring Two. Which is to say, I think it'll be entertaining for what it is, but my life could go by without seeing it, and I may catch it on TNT some rainy Sunday afternoon in between folding laundry and dusting. I don't see this as much of a diss, really.
And since I hearted the series so much, and am a fairly active Buffista, that statement is just as worthy in this thread as statements about people who plan to kill to be first in line at every showing. It's about Firefly, Serenity, and my thoughts/feelings about it, so at the least, it's on-topic.
Frank, I certainly don't think anyone who is frothing about Serenity is stupid or misguided. I don't think that people who like cilantro are stupid and misguided. It's a different taste.
Given my personal experiences with Firefly, which are vastly different than most of the fandom since I collaborated a bit with the show in an effort to save save it, and stood on the ship, and gave up sleep and a life for a few months for it, my feelings toward Firefly/Serenity are going to influenced by all that. It wasn't an overwhelmingly positive experience in the end. A lot happened afterward that made me feel foolish for caring that much. So it's a little...personal.
As for The Inside, it seems you're making assumptions based on...I don't know. What could you possibly know what sort of information I have on either series?
The truth of it is, I wouldn't say, here, what the depth of my knowledge is on either series. It feels a bit like showing off, and it's an odd thing sometimes to be both a fan and a friend. People speculate on things sometimes, and I know exactly what happened. Can't say, it would be a betrayal. It's sometimes maddening.
It goes like this:
Someone speculates on some meta issue and says something not only untrue, but also hurtful. The person is not aware that it is hurtful.
I say, "that's not the truth at all."
Someone says, "who the hell are you and why should we believe you?"
I can say, "I was there," or, "we talked about it for two hours last night on the phone and he wasn't even in town," or, "because I'm Allyson, asshole."
I know far more about The Inside than I do about Serenity, but there's more of The Inside to know, so there's that. I've read almost every script, and have been listening to Tim talk about this concept since Wonderfalls ended a year ago. I feel peripherally like I'm a part of it because it's been a big chunk of what my friend is living and breathing. we've talked it through and debated it. I have folders filled with screenshots. I know when there's meetings and how they turn out and what the difficulties and successes have been.
I know these things as a friend, not as a fan, so I wouldn't come and report back, "Tim had a meeting with Dana, he wore a blue jacket and they talked a lot about changing the look of a character."
It's (continued...)
( continues...) not just that I'm pimping The Inside, I'm insanely proud of my friend, too. So it's double the love.
Joss, I don't really know. I doubt he would feel I was pissing in his Wheaties, and couldn't care less about my opinion if he was in a persistent vegetative state. But I do feel much love for the man's work, and wish Serenity to be a massive success, both for the fans and for the people who worked on it.
Howevah, I think you're just gonna have to learn to not let my lowly opinion affect your enjoyment. That's your issue, really, that you have to solve for yourself.
I refuse to jump in to the debate but, I want Allyson to know that what Rosie is planning Serenity party-wise surrounds the premiere and is completely about supporting (and squealing) the BDHs on the red carpet.
We (posters at the OB) are all hoping that Allyson (with whatever help she needs from us local browncoats) will step in to work her magic around the release date.
Pretty please.
I'm there for ya. We already reserved the space at the Renaissance and I bookmarked all the decor I want to buy to make it extra special gorgeous. It wouldn't be hard to change hands if need be, though, so if someone's salivating to do it, I wouldn't get in the way.
I'm not so sure about renting any cattle, though. I think the polar bear may have caused irreparable psychological harm.

My Buffistas-speak has fallen arrears. "Polar bear" has something to with
Lost,
usually...
I'm lost.
Oh! Cattle, as in smuggling of same.
I'm back.
Maybe you can rent some beagles instead.
Or a few Badgers, instead.

Like I said, we need your expertise and experience to make this good.
We (hopefully I won't be getting smacked down for speaking for my fellow browncoats on the OB and at FFF.net) want a fabulous fan event like we already know you can do, so we will just be your loyal minions. And ita with her beautiful security crew would just be another big bonus.
And I second the beagle wish.
Some of us are already planning on running two fan tables at Comic Con for Serenity. Anyone planning on the trek down to San Diego?

There was a stuffed polar bear at the Destination:LA party.
