Is there a diplomatic and sympathetic way to say "I support you and what you do in Iraq as a soldier but I think that our President is a fuckwad and you shouldn't have to be there in the first place"?
"Come Home", off of Naomi Sommers' second album. It makes me cry every time I hear it.
[eta: Okay, I was listening to the clip off of CDBaby to see how much of the song was in there -- two whole verses, btw -- and then iTunes segued into "Heavy Duty" by Spinal Tap. I have iTunes whiplash.]
Well, you can say that the vote was a good thing and hopefully it will be a first step towards a peaceful, democratic future.

Ah. Give the lady a cookie. Thank you. I don't know why I'm stumbling like this! He never asked for an opinion, so I won't offer one, just the support I'm sure he needs. He only wanted to know that what's happening there wasn't going unnoticed. That I can do.
Also, I must find that song now, Jessica. I couldn't listen to it off the site, but she sounds right up my alley so now I'm going to look for it.
"I support you and what you do in Iraq as a soldier but I wish you weren't sent there in the first place."
This, if you feel the need to say it.
"I appriciate you, and I'm thinking about what you are doing every day."
Or this if you just want to be supportive right now.
I think both are quite valid options. And you are a good friend.
SotU
Huh. That was it? I think I need a shower.
She's brilliant, Lilty. And I'm not just saying that because we grew up together. She comes from a family of musicians (her father used to be the lead singer/mandolin player for the Seldom Scene), and both she and her brother have more raw talent than should be allowed in one family.
Unless you go to one of her shows (which I highly recommend), CDBaby's the only place to get her album, unfortunately. (She records and produces out of her dad's studio and on his label, and they're very small.)
"Come Home" is right at the top of my "Do not listen to in public while experiencing PMS" list, because it hits me so hard every time I listen to it.

Nope, my bad, what Nonian said.

A nice hot shower is a useful, but inadequate, therapy for the cold chill going up one's spine every time Dubya speaks.
Also, once the serious bit's out of the way, it's still ok to work in a few cheap laughs, right? I'm afraid he'd think I'd been hijacked if I didn't.
Or should I save it for another day. I was going to say that if he was here I'd have likely dragged him to Phantom so, hey, silver lining.
Crazy Eights? Scoooooore!
Lilty, I suspect the thing he needs most is laughs, cheap or not.
eta: Is there something we can send to him or to people in his unit? Does he know someone who doesn't get any mail and would like some?
