There's a level of pain that can't actually be remembered. I could remember the label 'pain', but not the pain itself.
Though I've never had kids, I can attest to this with my back injury/surgery. I remember that the pain was unbearable and agonizing, but I can't actually remember what it felt like. Thank god.

What Betsy said, with a side, of ...my last two weeks of my second pregnancy, I remembered stuff I wished I hadn't, from delivery number one. Ditto pregnancy number three. I think there is some biological forgetfulness, even when you think you remember. Then it is about to happen/happens again, and you *really* remember, and think, "I'm a fucking maniac to do this to myself again."
