The New Year's Eve shindig Chez AmyLiz is starting. We've got appetizers to start, followed by...well, more appetizers. Many nitrates and crescent rolls are involved. Also cheese. And there's wine for the grown-ups and root beer for the kids, with root beer floats and mini eclairs for later. We're going to watch The Wizard of Oz on DVD, followed by crazy eights or maybe Texas Hold 'Em, and, of course, Not!Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve, for the ball droppage.
The thirteen-month-old is the only one who's not staying up for the party. Since she threw her cheese at me all through our mini-meal and prediction-making for 2005 (we all write them down and put them in a tin canister until next year), I'm not unhappy.
I am having a quiet NYE at home, which is the way I like to do things. I have been a lazy slug, enjoying the fruits of last night's Borders trip (various manga, and many DVDs, including
The Lion in Winter
and Ian McKellan's version of
Richard III
)
Tomorrow will start with housework and end with a LotR marathon at a friend's house.
I am content.
Quiet NYE for us, too, not least because we just got back last night, and all the people we usually do stuff with happen to be out of town.
DH has promised me an interesting birthday surprise, something he's heard me say I want. But he's not giving it to me until tomorrow. I pointed out that since I was born at 1:14 a.m. CST, I technically turn 34 at 11:14 local time tonight, but he's not buying it.
I'm drying off and heading out to take a train to eat dinner with Nic. We will then row, er, drive to San Jose, feed our feral cats, and come sedately home again. I'm hoping it absolute pours in SF tonight, the better to keep all the noisy local drunken students and yuppies inside their flats, rather than keeping me awake all night.
Ah, age....
Happy New Years, all.
Wm Shatner is on Comedy Central singing.
I have perhaps not said this enough -- Shatner's album, Has Been, KICKS ASS!
No really. It's very good.
I'm dining upon chips and pimiento cheese, and partaking of an off-brand Irish cream libation. I'll be going to bed likely before midnight as tomorrow I work a double shift.
I think the last time I actually went out on New Year's Eve involved a "Watch Night" thingy at a Baptist church. I brought homemade donut holes.
Harvey just stole a pringles.
You had a potato chip stolen by an invisible bunny?
I just put a double batch of ginger macadamia nut brownies in the oven.
Who wants to come help me eat them?
So far, my very exciting New Years includes eating microwaved Indian food, calling my sister, and watching The Waltons. I also called my parents, but they're not home; apparently they have more of a life than I do.
