"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Remember Brandon Lee? Yeesh.

Or more apt, John Eric Hexum.

Of course nobody remembers him anymore except as a cautionary tale about fucking around with the prop-guns.

Apparently BEWITCHED is the root of all evil. Who knew?

Vince Vaughan tried to get a propguy friend of mine fired because he wouldn't even let him touch the real gun which was going to be used in a scene, even though it was unloaded. This is why.

The indy shoot I worked on as an AD had some scenes with firearms (none were fired on screen, just shown). There was no real prop master, just the guy who owned the guns. I was very adamant about the guns being kept in a secure room, he and the actor be the only two people to touch the guns, and he did not hand the actor the gun unless he personally showed me an empty chamber.

I'm a bit of a fanatic about set safety.

Trust my rage

I'm a bit of a fanatic about set safety.

It's good to know that some people are. Although I'm very comfortable around guns (lots of Army training, etc.) being around people who aren't familiar with guns and said guns always makes me nervous.

Calli - we are getting more snow? It's so pretty when it falls, but such a bummer for transportation.

I also ordered him not to bring ammunition on set, which he didn't, and I still made him show me an empty chamber before he passed the weapon to the actor.

I've had some minimal experience with guns (less than I'd like, really... shooting stuff is fun), but I still know basic gun safety, and got hyper anal about it when it was an on-set issue.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Nonian, weather.com is predicting 1-2 inches of snow overnight. (~60% chance) It's supposed to start long after rush hour and be done falling by dawn tomorrow.

Sweet. The pessimist in me says Vince would have been perfectly safe because it's always the nice people who seem to die in tragic unknowingly loaded gun accidents.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The one gun safety thingie I know that isn't common knowledge - with a semi-automatic weapon, removing the clip is not enough to ensure the gun is safe, as there may be a round in the chamber.

Years ago, a guy accidentially shot himself because he didn't know this.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I've been asked to pass this on:

"Hi, it's me, Pete, the Husband of Reason. No, I've no friggin' clue what my password is anymore, so I'm asking Jilli to post this for me -

Regarding our ages; may I extend a hearty thank you to you all for your kind inability to spot the telltale signs that mark me as bumbling & crumbling towards my late 30's. Also, Jilli's descriptions of my reaction to said posts was much too accurate and I'll be having words with the cheeky wee minx when I get her home.

And with that, I must go, as I have a mountain of paintings to do. Would you like me to pass you your collective white cane as I'm leaving?

Oh and Sean? You're a whipper-snapper.

Toodle-loo.

Pete"

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

The one gun safety thingie I know that isn't common knowledge - with a semi-automatic weapon, removing the clip is not enough to insure the gun is safe, as there may be a round in the chamber.

I feel like this has been used in enough movies to be common knowledge by now, but I can't think of any of them off the top of my head, so perhaps not.
