It's good to know that some people are.

I also ordered him not to bring ammunition on set, which he didn't, and I still made him show me an empty chamber before he passed the weapon to the actor.

I've had some minimal experience with guns (less than I'd like, really... shooting stuff is fun), but I still know basic gun safety, and got hyper anal about it when it was an on-set issue.

Vince Vaughan tried to get a propguy friend of mine fired because he wouldn't even let him touch the real gun which was going to be used in a scene, even though it was unloaded. This is why.

I feel like this has been used in enough movies to be common knowledge by now, but I can't think of any of them off the top of my head, so perhaps not.

This is why soldiers in formation must open the chamber and visually confirm it is empty before handing the weapon to their drill sergeant.
