I read they're thinking of fining drivers who drove past barricades. Making them pay for the rescue effort. I hope they do. I wonder if any of them put the barricades back behind them when they were done being invulnerable?

I guess we could all be getting sick - a day when everyone called in sick would be awesome.
made the second call. I rock. painless calls too.
I suspect that most people really don't understand how dangerous flood waters can be . Not an excuse, but most people don't really understand that flood waters aren't just 'possibly too deep for a car" but deep water with currents and dangerous unseen derbies floating in it.
The level of obliviousness indicated by bypassing safety barricades to drive into a flood—in the apparent belief that "Don't you know who I AM?" works on natural disasters—says to me that she'll find something other than herself to blame for the tragedy.
With Matt.
I have no idea why she would put her children in such jeopardy, and I'd personally like to slap her.
I just got two voicemails for some dude from a woman at a university asking him to come in to interview for a position in the chemistry department.
I called back and left a message that she had the wrong number, and I'd hate for the dude to miss out on a job.
She called to apologize (she had the wrong area code), and I told her if she hires the guy, he owes me flowers.
Karma wheel, spin in my direction, now?
If I kill someone and feel really bad, I don't need any other punishment?
That's the thing. If she drove into the water with another adult who wound up dead, no one would think twice about charging her with something.

Yes, this. I agree with what beth said about not always knowing how dangerous flood waters can be, but to me that's before someone has kindly put barricades up. Once they're there, I'd be thinking, Huh. Maybe I should take a detour.

I could see her suing the city for leaving out MOVEABLE barricades. I mean, if they are moveable, they are meant to be moved, right?
It's sad because it's true.....
oh Allyson, that reminds me. I got this big long message for some guy on my cell phone. It was all about a job and running some tests and work to do. I called the number back and it was the main switchboard for a big national company with offices in muliple cities. We, teh operator and I, eventually figured out who the call was from (a lady in Denver). I called her, she was there and I proceeded to explain the situation. Her response was "well, who IS this?" I paused and said, "Ma'm, I am a person in New York doing you a favor." we got it resolved.
ok - my favorite thing of the day? I can renew library books online even if they are overdue. So I still owe a fine, but I don't keep getting charged the fine for the days forward. awesome!

I had a call just yesterday from someone who, if I understood him correctly, was telling me that the barricades that a contractor put up around a big hole in the street had been moved over the weekend by passersby, and people were falling into the hole and they weren't gonna sue us yet but clearly the contractor hadn't put the barricades up right.
That was pretty incredibly nice, Allyson.
Huh. They neglected to tell me that my shoes had shipped until after they were delivered. Maybe I can get home and get them from my doorman before it starts snowing too hard.
