Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

So, it's not just the difference between say wheat, rye, barley, it's that there are different types of wheat out there

Zackly. Specifically, winter and spring wheats are typically used for high-gluten flours (including bread flour and high-gluten flour, which is even higher in gluten and used for bagels) and summer wheat is used for soft flour. They're different varieties of wheat, and not just different growing seasons. All-purpose flour can be any blend of the two.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Wow. More to flour than I ever realized. I knew there were different growing seasons, I didn't realize that it might mean different varieties at the same time. You guys are the best reference material, I think I may delete my bookmark for Google.

While fighting valiantly to go to sleep last night, I caught an old CSI. The first one with Lady Heather. And who should be the wife of the guilty party but Kirsten from the OC. I swear, that show can take the six degrees in tv down to 2.

I need to clean. I need to do laundry. I need to grocery shop.

I have a sneaking suspicion I will do none of the above.

If I only had a brain...

Cake flour is in boxes, not bags, which makes it harder to find. Look for a box about the size of a medium-sized box of Bisquick, brand name Softasilk.

I actually do have bobby pins, as well. Maybe I will use them for the next set of documents.

The board is quiet today. I hope people are out having interesting days.

I am not. I am working, with periodic stops to come in here and read LJ. A long holiday weekend? Not the time to post a lot of fic, I gotta say.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Wow, I didn't know all that about wheat. As someone who has trouble with wheat gluten, this is very good information to have! Also, explains why I dislike bagels, and they dislike me.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Years ago I worked in a bakery. We only used organic flour - it varied quite a lot from week to week, so the person doing the bread dough mixing always had their hands full adjusting the recepies to compensate.

Me too, Consuela. I was going to walk across the street and get gumbo, as well, but now it is all cloudy and rainlike again, so I may not.
