Spike: We got a history, him and me. Fred: What? Spike: It was a long time ago. He was a young Watcher, fresh out of the academy when we crossed paths. It was a, what-you-call battle of wills and blood was spilled. Vendettas were sworn. It was a whole-- Fred: My God you're so full of crap. Spike: Yeah. Okay.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

HUGE Maupin fan. Except for Sure of You. I returned it to bookstore after reading it, it made me so mad.

Whoa! I mean, I didn't love, but damn, that's hardcore. I don't know that I've EVER returned a book. I even keep (or trade) books that I hated.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Why keep books you hated? My mom had a used bookstore, so I learned that every book, no matter how lame, has someone out there who will love it. It's better to set it free to please someone, rather than have it sit around your house reminding you of an unpleasant experience.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Joe about had a coronary when I told him I had returned it. He NEVER gets rids of books. I'll occasionaly see him reading something I know he said he hated, but he needed something to read and it was there.....

I don't return a book for a refund unless the copy is physically flawed (e.g. missing pages, unreadable print), but if I don't like a book, I don't finish it, and if I don't expect to re-read it, I don't keep it even if I liked it a lot. I give almost all my spares to the library rather than selling them, though.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

He NEVER gets rids of books.

The Celestine Prophecy broke me of this. I don't think I've ever returned one to the store, though.

Probably would have been better to say that I never throw out a book. I will take stuff to a used bookstore or a read/return kind of place.

Okay, I'm not that bad. But I love Joe, so I will forgive :)

Interesting. I still wouldn't do it, partly because I am so ruthlessly picky (and downright wrathful over certain types of historical inaccuracy). Though usually once I'm buying a book new rather than getting it used or from the library, that means I trust the author to give good story.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I've never thrown out a book, but I have left big bags of them on the street.

I've got some books that probably should be thrown out because I've read them to tatters. But it just feels evil to toss a book in a recycling bin.
