If your bid is too cheap, they'll let you know. I would definitely lowball the first bid, then move it to something more reasonable if it squawks.

I'm sorry to announce I don't think I'm going to make the visit to Michigan this time. I've come down with a rotten case of cold/flu and I don't think it's going to be any better tomorrow. I'm sorry to disappoint, but it's just too long a drive when feeling like this and I don't want to expose any other people to my germs, especially little Princess Emeline.
