Buffistechnology 2: You Made Her So She Growls?
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
That's possible? I'm borrowing it. And that's the driver that gets installed when I turn it on.
Yes. There are honest to goodness external drives, as well as external drive enclosures that let you install an internal drive inside and even converter cables that let you plug an internal drive into a USB port.
Odd question, you do have the drive plugged in to a power outlet, yes?

Oh, I know that you can do that. I just didn't know whether that's what I had, as it's not my drive. And I have the sinking feeling that I'm going to have to go to Plan B, which is to take out my hard drive and externalize it so I can transfer the data to my new computer.

Yes. Like I said, the computer likes it when I connect the USB cable and then turn on the drive. If I turn on the drive and then connect the cable, the driver doesn't install properly.
Try assigning the current logical H: drive to a higher drive letter in the disk management console, and then plug in the new drive. I know XP will often not reassign a drive letter, even if there's nothing plugged in, and it may be the same for 2000.
I think that I need to add a line - out. I also think that the co-ax that came with the vcr is missing so I need to replace it (that's the missing link I believe.) I
almost
have it. But I think I tried to skip a step. (I mean the cable with the red, white, yellow connectors is not the way I connect the vcr to the box, right?)

But there
is
no current H: drive. It's not in the list. Not in the Disk Management list. Or do you mean plug in my flash drive so that I get it and then assign it to G: instead of my Zip drive and THEN plug in the hard drive?

Yes, although I'd assign it to something higher, like R: or S:, instead of G:
One of the things I like to do with a problem like this is to load a Linux LiveCD (fully functional OS that runs off a CD) and see if the drive shows up when plugged in. If so, you have a software problem, if not you have a hardware problem.
I don't know if downloading a CD image and burning it is practical for you or not though. If so, I'll be glad to help with the process.
I want a new phone. Mine is currently being pouty about my Bluetooth headset. It used to work fine, but now there are bursts of interference in the earpiece.
I replaced the headset (with a Motorola H700--that thing is sweet--I considered the new, tinier Samsung, but decided to pay extra dosh for a bit more weight, and longer battery life) so I know it's not that.
I've been jonesing for a Cingular-attached phone with the following features:
- Bluetooth
- Camera (doesn't have to be great)
- Keyboard
- Voice dialing
- not running WinCE
I think that's it. Any recommendations?
sumi, the signal goes from my cable box to the next thing in the system via the red, white and yellow cable. I would think that if you can make the conection that way, it should work. Is the VCR set to the correct channel to get a signal from the cable box?
I'm going to try again tonight.
