Yes. Men like sports. Men watch the action movie, they eat of the beef, and enjoy to look at the bosoms. A thousand years of avenging our wrongs and that's all you've learned?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Try assigning the current logical H: drive to a higher drive letter in the disk management console, and then plug in the new drive. I know XP will often not reassign a drive letter, even if there's nothing plugged in, and it may be the same for 2000.

Art Crawl!!!

I think that I need to add a line - out. I also think that the co-ax that came with the vcr is missing so I need to replace it (that's the missing link I believe.) I almost have it. But I think I tried to skip a step. (I mean the cable with the red, white, yellow connectors is not the way I connect the vcr to the box, right?)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

But there is no current H: drive. It's not in the list. Not in the Disk Management list. Or do you mean plug in my flash drive so that I get it and then assign it to G: instead of my Zip drive and THEN plug in the hard drive?

Yes, although I'd assign it to something higher, like R: or S:, instead of G:

Coding and Sleeping

One of the things I like to do with a problem like this is to load a Linux LiveCD (fully functional OS that runs off a CD) and see if the drive shows up when plugged in. If so, you have a software problem, if not you have a hardware problem.

I don't know if downloading a CD image and burning it is practical for you or not though. If so, I'll be glad to help with the process.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I want a new phone. Mine is currently being pouty about my Bluetooth headset. It used to work fine, but now there are bursts of interference in the earpiece.

I replaced the headset (with a Motorola H700--that thing is sweet--I considered the new, tinier Samsung, but decided to pay extra dosh for a bit more weight, and longer battery life) so I know it's not that.

I've been jonesing for a Cingular-attached phone with the following features:

  • Bluetooth
  • Camera (doesn't have to be great)
  • Keyboard
  • Voice dialing
  • not running WinCE

I think that's it. Any recommendations?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

sumi, the signal goes from my cable box to the next thing in the system via the red, white and yellow cable. I would think that if you can make the conection that way, it should work. Is the VCR set to the correct channel to get a signal from the cable box?

AAAAAUGH. Must vent:

So, I sent in my laptop a week ago. They said at the apple store that it would ~$350 (they gave me an exact amount, I just don't remember it) and the people at the "depot" would replace my hard drive and/or logic board, as needed. Sure, this wasn't thrilling, cause the computer is only 2.5 years old, but whatever. For $350, better than having to buy a new computer.

Today I get a call, telling me "Well, because the ethernet port was damaged, and that damaged the logic board, the repair will cost $1240 instead"

Say WHAT? OK, first off, the ethernet port still WORKS. So how damaged can it BE? And secondly, why does that suddenly cause the repair to be FOUR TIMES the cost?? I call them up and they claim that even though fixing it would involve doing the EXACT SAME THING, because it's a "damage" now instead of a "out of warranty repair" it would cost $1240. My only options were "send it back" or "Sure, I'll spend the cost of a new computer to maybe fix this one".

Again, what the fucking fuck? So now they're not fixing ANYTHING on it, and just sending it back to me. Though I'm not clear on whether they're still going to charge me something.

I fail to see how "damage" to the ethernet port that leaves the thing functional can cause my computer to essentially be a BRICK.

Fucking hell. I really DON'T want to buy a new computer. (which is to say, of course I WANT a new computer, they look shiny! but I don't want to BUY one...)
