I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

Wordpress is generally considered to be a much more stable software platform than either moveable type or blogger. Especially if you are hosting it yourself. Not that you should not make a whole lot of backups of any blog with important info. No blogging software is THAT reliable.

A bit of a warning about Series 3 cable compatibility and Time Warner.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

$200 to transfer a lifetime sub is ridiculous -- that's more than I paid to buy it in the first place!

It's about what I paid, and since they don't have them anymore...but it's the hardware cost that gets up my nose.

Our wings are not tired

I only paid $99 for my lifetime sub, but that was yonks ago and it's already on the second Tivo I've owned. I started with an early Series 1 and got the transfer to my Series 2. I figure 7+ years on the sub is pretty good. At $200 I really just need to hit the two year mark before it starts paying for itself again.

Time Warner has backed off its claim that it won't support the TiVo.

Cool. I figure if Time Warner will work with TiVo somebody will figure out how to get it to work with Myth at some point.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I wonder if we can transfer a series 1 lifetime sub to the series 3. The arstechnica article is unclear.

I should have followed the links a little further. Looks like Series 1 boxes do qualify: [link]

This may be tempting.

This looks purty.

I've never been tempted by a Blackberry for myself before--perhaps because I have a love-hate relationship with my work device.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I'd like to put some of the music that my mother's chorus has recorded onto their website. However, I have no idea what the copyright issues are, or what might constitute fair use. They did pay royalties to record it -- does anyone know what the guidlines are for posting on a site? Or even where I could begin to look online?
