Amych, it's not hosting that's the issue, so much as no software. The way Blogger lets you publish a blog to your own web host is kinda cool.

On the other hand, I can get an HD-DVR from my cable company for $9/month, and have one fewer set-top boxes. Suddenly Tivo's extra features aren't looking so compelling.
($200 to transfer a lifetime sub is ridiculous -- that's more than I paid to buy it in the first place!)

Wordpress is generally considered to be a much more stable software platform than either moveable type or blogger. Especially if you are hosting it yourself. Not that you should not make a whole lot of backups of any blog with important info. No blogging software is THAT reliable.
