"How come if God talks to Joseph Smith, he's a prophet- but if God talks to me, I'm schizophrenic?" -CJ Cox.

Have a cure for stupidity?

To much to hope for, I'm sure. At any rate, I attempted to install the Firefox browser and there was a conflict with my security software, so I had to uninstall it, before turning off the other software and attempting to re-installing it.

The problem is this: When I initially (and ineptly) downloaded and intalled the program, selected to set it as my default for just about everything. Now I can't get any of my updates to install (spysweeper, iTunes, etc.) because there is no Firefox.

I pray to the computer Gods for a better brain.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

The first thing to try is to run Internet Explorer, and see if it asks you if it wants to be the default browser again.

First of all, thanks all for not pointing and shouting "leporous newbie! Die!" Secondly, thanks for willingness to aid someone who probably shoudln't be on the computer in the first place.

Did that, using explorer now and nothing happened. Also went into the "set programs and access defaults" option on the start menu. Zero joy.

In IE, go to Tools->Internet Options...->Programs, and check the box that says "Internet Explorer should check and see whether it is the default browser". Press OK, and then quit and restart IE.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

When you're in Internet Explorer, try opening Internet Options, and then look for the "Programs" tab. There should be a checkbox near the bottom that says "always check to see if Internet Explorer is the default browser" or something along those lines. Check that box, and then try quitting and restarting IE.

(edit: Dude, Tom is a whole two minutes faster than me! I hang my head in shame.)

Okay, like this isn't all embarassing enough, I'm using MSN Explorer at the moment, which runs as my default, usually. Thing is, I can't seem to find the (apparently) elusive "internet options".

You also might be able to find the "Internet Options" on the Control Panel.

Clever you. Who'd of thunk?

Checked that, and everything seems normal and all the defaults are correct, maybe it's just a glitch, or me.... probably me.
