Can anyone elaborate on why Ubuntu seems to be the Linux distro of choice for 'ffistas?
It's sort of the linux distro of choice for most everybody these days, from what I can tell. The internet waves I'm getting imply that it's the new sex - I'm guessing because it has a good balance of ease-of-use and customizibility/power.
(disclaimer: These are just impressions. I've never used Ubuntu. When I ran Linux, it did not exist. Also, I scoffed at ease-of-use: slackware and gentoo were my distos of choice, for I was a true computer-geek-manly-man.)
I got a replacement battery for my MB from Radio Shack. Before I try to boot it up, what should I expect? I assume some stuff will need to be reset like the clock? Anything else?
You may have to reset some peripherals in the bios, but if you haven't tweaked it before, I'd see how things run for now.
two-tone mac keyboard? This just looks wrong.

Arggh! I was briefly hopeful when the guy at Radio Shack tested my old battery and indicated it was dead, but the new battery isn't changing my problem: Still absolutely nothing when I boot up, but if I disconnect the square aux plug thingie, and try to start up, the fan and CD light go on.
Bah! I'm this close to dropping a few hundred on a new MB and processor.
Can one do a symbolic link (or the other kind) from one directory to another in a .Mac account?
Today's Woot! is a Toshiba Tivo Series 2 DVR. Anyone have experience or opinions on this one?

I'm using Ubuntu now. I was using SUSE, but I wanted to try something else. I really like Debian packaging and apt-get and was never a big fan of SUSE's packaging setup. I'm liking Ubuntu, it requires more fiddling with the command line to set things up than SUSE, but it seems quicker somehow. KDE vs. GNOME is pretty much a non-issue with Ubuntu since one apt-get command can get you the KDE desktop if you want it.
Bah. I finally pulled the drives and sticks out of my old machine, and the old memory is indeed not compatable with the new machine. Oh well, I've almost doubled my drive space, though. Nice.
