Well, I ordered my MacBook.
Dual-core 1.67 GHz with AppleCare. Didn't bother to upgrade the RAM or HD - I'll do the RAM myself, for much cheaper, and 80 GB should do me fine in disc space. I'm not the hog I used to be. Besides, I may buy a Firewire or USB enclosure for the 100 GB drive I recently put in my iBook.
Hope early-adopter doesn't bite me in the butt, but I'm ready for this upgrade.
Storage is king. My G5 has a 300 GB, 160 GB, and 100 GB drives on it. My Win XP Box has 100 GB and 200 GB drives, in it. I've got a 500 GB firewire drive that travels with my laptop, and then about 500 GB in floating FW drives of various sizes.
Disney has agreed to purchase Pixar for 7.4 Billion Dollars. [link]
BURBANK, Calif. - The Walt Disney Company says it is buying longtime partner Pixar Animation Studios for seven-point-four (b) billion dollars.
The deal could restore Disney's animation domination while vaulting Pixar C-E-O Steve Jobs into a powerful role at the media conglomerate.
Disney will buy Pixar in an all stock transaction that makes Jobs Disney's largest shareholder. Jobs will also join Disney's board.
Pixar President Ed Catmull will serve as president of the new combined Pixar and Disney animation studios, reporting to Disney chief executive Robert Iger and Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

Dude, sounds more like Pixar is buying Disney.

Yeah, at least Steve Jobs is...
Stupid question: I unthinkingly connected a vacuum cleaner to a surge protector (I know, I know) which caused it to shut down/burn out/whatever. When I connect it to another power outlet, it still works, but only the "protected" indicator light is on, and the "grounded" line is off. I'm pretty sure that both indicator lights were on before. Does this mean it will still protect my modem/router in cases of power surges (since the "protected" line is on)? I know certain surge protectors can only work once then you have to replace it. I'm hoping I don't have to buy another one.
I could probably get an answer for this if I google, but I am feeling very lazy and you guys know everything.
Have you reconnected it to the original outlet? Perhaps the one you have it connected to now isn't grounded.
The "Protected" light generally means it is still protecting things from a power suge coming from the wall socket.
If we know the make and model, we might even be able to check the online site for you.
It may sound that way but Jobs will only get something like a 12 percent share of Disney. While this is large, it is very far from a controlling share.
So the only changes may be that all the sportcasters on ESPN start wearing black turtlenecks?
The rumble that I've been hearing locally is that Jobs may actually end up as the Chairman of Disney's Board. Nothing confirmed yet but THAT would be quite a power position.
