You're nice, and you're funny and you don't smoke, and okay, werewolf, but that's not all the time. I mean, three days out of the month, I'm not much fun to be around, either.

Alpine is claiming that the new 2006 headunits are faster. I do not know if this is true.

If I only had a brain...

Yeah, ND, but I have upgraded hard drives on both TiVos and paid for a permanent license on one. I'm not really wanting to upgrade any time soon.

I've got a lifetime service on my Tivo Series2. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Tivo gives a similar offer to the one they did for series 1 folks which lifetime subs. There was a very brief window (I think it was a 2 month offer) where if you bought the new top of the line Series 2, they'd transfer your lifetime service. I did it. I've been with Tivo since '99 and I still am using the same lifetime contract. If memory serves I was such an early adopter I only paid something like $99 or maybe $149 for my lifetime sub.

What the fuck? I'm there if they do it.

Does Tivo still offer lifetime subs? I noticed that my Replay 5040s are still worth practically what I paid for them two and three years ago, with lifetime sub, were I to unload them on ebay. Not that I'm considering switching or anything...

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Yep -- current Tivo lifetime sub is $299.

If I can transfer my Series2 lifetime sub to a Series3 box, I will be a very happy camper.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'd pay a premium to switch--but how much depends on the cost of the S3.

Who knows if they'll do it again, but if it comes up I'm going to jump on it. I know at the time it cost me about $399 for the new box, but with the transferred service it was worth every penny. I got the offer through their email list within a few months of the Series 2 coming out. I've had this box for at least 3 years, so it was a while back.

My old original Tivo is even still working. I gave it to my folks after I upgraded.

I just put a new hard drive in my Tivo though. Hmm. I guess I'd just HAVE to have 2 Tivos in the home...

ND, if they do let you transfer, please let us know ASAP.
