Buffistechnology 2: You Made Her So She Growls?
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I have Comcast and a digital cable box, Betsy -- my one TiVo has integrated just fine. The other TiVo is set up for just analog signal, so I don't know what I'll do if more channels go digital.
From what I understand Alpine has the best aftermarket radios with iPod interfaces.
On the Digital cable issues, the Tivo S3 will be out later this year and it's supposed to support cablecards, which would allow you to get the digital channels without the digital converter box.
Alpine's iPod interface was the best that I tried, but it was still sssllloooowwww.
How slow is slow?
I was in a car last night that had an audio-in jack in its stereo which seemed...well, better than nothing.
I'm annoyed that with all the strange and techie things they're doing with cars these days, they aren't simplifying hooking up your MP3 players. I don't want an in-car MP3 player. I want my music to follow me to the car, and out of it. Not to mention frequent updates, including podcasts.
Alpine is claiming that the new 2006 headunits are faster. I do not know if this is true.
Yeah, ND, but I have upgraded hard drives on both TiVos and paid for a permanent license on one. I'm not really wanting to upgrade any time soon.
I've got a lifetime service on my Tivo Series2. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Tivo gives a similar offer to the one they did for series 1 folks which lifetime subs. There was a very brief window (I think it was a 2 month offer) where if you bought the new top of the line Series 2, they'd transfer your lifetime service. I did it. I've been with Tivo since '99 and I still am using the same lifetime contract. If memory serves I was such an early adopter I only paid something like $99 or maybe $149 for my lifetime sub.

What the fuck? I'm there if they do it.
Does Tivo still offer lifetime subs? I noticed that my Replay 5040s are still worth practically what I paid for them two and three years ago, with lifetime sub, were I to unload them on ebay. Not that I'm considering switching or anything...
