Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Did your issue clear up, LeN? I have no help to offer, sadly.
I'm looking to buy a new HD for the PC that is going to become Linuxed up. What's the most reliable brand these days? I'm looking for something in the 100-200 GB range, speed is good, but quiet is better.
I buy nothing buy Seagate for my machines and have had wonderful luck with them. These are drives that are streaming audio and video all the time, so they get worked pretty hard.
Of course now that I've said this I'm just asking for an HD crash.
Hmm. Outpost.com has a 300GB Seagate for $135.
Thanks!
They are also very quiet. My theatrical machines have to be quiet enough to be in the house with the audience and not noticed and the Seagate drives are the only ones I'll use.
I... uhhh... dropped a hard drive and now the computer thinks it's not even initialized. If I try to initialize it, I'll loose all the data on it, right? Is my only hope to spend a lot of money by bringing it to one of those HD hospital places? Or is there something I should try at home?
(It was the drive I used to store back-ups, so I don't think there was anything extremely valuable on it, but I'd like to grab the most recent back-up image on it if possible)
My iPod has gone completely dead. It was working fine this morning, and now I can't even turn it on. I've tried restarting by holding down Menu and Play/Pause -- no response.
Could the battery have died that quickly? If I go to the Apple Store, will they let me trade up for a new one?
If you plug the iPod in and reset it, does it work?
Jessica, this just happened to me too. my ipod died for three days(!!!!) then i (randomly)decided to try it on the third day and boom, it started to work again. to say i was happy (yet apprehensive) would be an understatement.
this isn't that helpful except to say that it's possible not all is lost.
