Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Thanks.

It's a redirect introduced by the adframe.

Um... shouldn't they not be doing that?

eta: I mean, they're intentionally redirecting all traffic from that webpage to theirs, right?

All is well that ends in pizza.

It is indeed a no-no. If it doesn't specifically say so in the advertizing contract, I'm sure just on general principles it's deeply stupid.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

New virus warning: [link]

Note that you can get infected if you visit a web site that has an image file containing the exploit. Internet Explorer users might automatically get infected. Firefox users can get infected if they decide to run or download the image file.

In our tests (under XP SP2) older versions of Firefox (1.0.4) defaulted to open WMF files with "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer", which is vulnerable. Newer versions (1.5) defaulted to open them with Windows Media Player, which is not vulnerable...but then again, Windows Media Player is not able to show WMF files at all so this might be a bug in Firefox. Opera 8.51 defaults to open WMF files with "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" too. However, all versions of Firefox and Opera prompt the user first.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

ita, what would make you think the Tivo USB modem might be faster?

"There are two sorts of people in the world: those who believe Joss Whedon is a genius and those who are wrong." - Connie Ogle, Miami Herald

TiVo sells their own wireless adapter...I wonder how much faster it really is.

There's a thread at Tivo Community Forums about the adapter.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

what would make you think the Tivo USB modem might be faster?

They say "Optimized wireless performance with your TiVo® Series2™ DVR" which has led to some speculation over what tweaks they might have made. I haven't seen any benchmarking yet, but the preliminary gadget blog reactions seem optimistic -- zatznotfunny says "off-loads some of the network processing, by utilizing a “full MAC chipset,” resulting in improved throughput over, say, my Netgear WG111."

Anyone have any suggestions regarding a new battery for my 12" powerbook? It's currently good for maybe 20 minutes. Should I just buy the one from Apple? Or go somewhere else? It pisses me off that I should have to buy a new battery every 18 months!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Let's say hypothetically that I had a DVD with 2 unaired episodes of a certain cancelled television show. What would be the best way to share them? (Other than mailing the DVD around, which is certainly possible, but slow and likely to take years.)

[edit: And if your answer is "make a torrent," please include specific instructions with helpful links!]

[eta2: "Mail it to me and I'll make a torrent for you" would be an acceptable answer as well.]

All is well that ends in pizza.

From Slashdot:

The U.S. Military has created the first ever prototype for an exoskeleton to be worn by soldiers capable of making its 100 pound weight and a 70 pound supply package feel like five pounds." From the article: "Bleex 1 consists of a pair of hydraulically powered leg braces, more than 40 electronic sensors, a control computer, and an internal-combustion engine providing power from an attached backpack. The plastic and carbon-fiber braces are affixed rigidly to the soldier through a customized pair of standard Army boots, with more compliant and giving connections at the chest and waist. These looser connections prevent blisters and abrasions."

Your tag here.

Bleex 1

Huh. That article seems to imply the only purpose of the exoskelton is to increase the load carrying capacity of a soldier (70 pounds in the current model, 200 in Bleex2) and its fuel supply only lasts 15 minutes. To what end?
