Visilurking

I had been toying with the idea of getting a phone with web access, because there are times that my business requires me to be able to get e-mail. After the afternoon from hell, in which I was waiting for an important e-mail and the ice storm took down my phone line and DSL, eventually driving me to the wi-fi at Krystal, of all places, it's suddenly become more of a priority. I want a qwerty-ish keyboard. It seems to be a battle between a Treo and a Blackberry. This [link] is interesting, but doesn't have much of a track record. Anyone want to say what good or bad about what they have? There's too much stuff to compare and I'm baffled.

I picked up the Treo 650 a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. I also bought an enfora wifi sled, which means whenever I'm in a wifi zone (like my home, office, hot spots etc.) I get free internet access on my phone. I didn't want to pay $45 a month for data access, because I figured if I really need internet on the road I can either find a hot spot or pay as I go with the data.

I went with the Treo over the Blackberry because I'm a Palm OS addict, and I was wary of the future of blackberry because of the lawsuit. Also, the Treo is freakin' incredible.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I like the Blackberry for work, because it's tied tightly into our enterprise email and calendaring system. I don't think I'd get one for myself, but I have a couple geek friends who have.

I don't have a Treo, because I'm averse to too much unifications -- I have a phone that can do rudimentary e-mail, calendaring and web browsing, and a PDA that can use it as a modem. Works like a charm.

Hey. New board.

On some providers, Treo data is not $45 a month. I get 5 MB/month for $9.99 on Cingular, which is more than enough for my occasional email and VERY occasional web use. For $20, I could get unlimited data on it.

$.01/KB, the pay-as-you-go-rate is rather highway robberyish, though if you often have access to WiFi it might be aight.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Okay...so I just got an email from weaknees.com that advertises its new terabyte tivo! It is "on sale" for $1400.

Damn.

I got that too! Is it just DirectTV TiVos? I stopped paying attention once the price registered.

I like my TiVo, and I like capacity...but not that much. Never that much.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

For you Treo lovers, I need to know why you love them so much.

My contract with Cingular ends in about 5 months and I need to decide what my next cellphone will be. I love my Palm PDAs. I am not sure why I need it integrated with my phone. What benefit is there in doing this besides being able to immediately call those in my contact book?

FTR: My Tungsten 5 dials numbers on my Razr. I don't know how immediate you mean, but I like it because I don't have to have any but my most-used numbers on my phone, and it's not very many steps.

If I only had a brain...

For you Treo lovers, I need to know why you love them so much.

You completely stop caring when and where a show is on. "House" is on whenever you feel like watching it. Catching up on three weeks' worth of "Veronica Mars"? No big. Supper isn't finished by 8PM on Wednesday? Whatever.

Don't feel like sitting through the commercial? Start watching "Stargate" 15 minutes late, then hit fast-forward whenever a commercial shows up.

Stop running your life by the TV schedule; run the TV schedule by your life.
