If I only had a brain...

I think Theodosia is; didn't she win one in the essay contests?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Oh yeah, that's right, huh?

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Yeah -- so did Rio! (And I think it's 3 years and change -- I'll have to check back)

Cheap that I am, I wouldn't have parted with the money to buy one, but having won one (a 14-hour model!) I soon learned that it was more than worth it to pay for one. (I still had to buy the lifetime subscription.)

Our wings are not tired

I didn't win one in the essay contest, but that's when I bought one. a dual drive 30 hour.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

And we thought gaining personal benefit by writing brilliant essays would end when we left school!

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Hi there. Idiot question: I have stuff on my laptop that I want to move onto the desktop. I got myself a cable to connect the two. My computer now recognises the existence of a local area connection, but it says there is limited or no connectivity, and the other computer isn't showing up. Anyone have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong, and how to fix it?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

If you're using Windows, you need to enable file sharing on both machines. Also, what kind of cable? If you're just plugging a single cable into the ethernet ports of the two machines, you need a crossover cable instead of a normal ethernet cable. Otherwise you need a hub or a router between them.

On any Mac made in the last few years the cross-over cables or hubs aren't needed. The ethernet ports detect a direct connection and configure themselves accordingly. I suspect the same is true of PCs.

You might need to assign IP addresses to both computers to get them to talk.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Anyone else getting bombed with obviously virus laden "Merry Christmas" emails? They're going straight into my spam folder so it's no more than a minor annoyance, but it's still irritating.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Yes, I'm getting the "Merry Christmas" spam, along with a fair amount sent from "Perverted Santa."
