He specifically asked for flash rather than a hard drive one, I think because the tiny form factor is the main thing (he wants it to be very unnoticeable that he's listening to music)
And song quality is a factor, since he's kind of an audiophile.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

You may want to have a little talk with him about that apple problem of his.
Right now, Apple kind of has a lock on the market for flash chips, so if you want to get a player with the kind of capacity you're talking about, you have to go with a Nano.
Yeah, no one else has a flash player with anywhere near the capacity of the Nano. I'm not really sure, but I think the max for a non-Nano flash player might be 1 Gig.
The search for the perfect Flash MP3 player is winding to a close...but now that I've seen this, I'm sorely tempted: [link]
I think the Sony mp3 players look cool. Dunno much about them though (except they finally ditched their stupid propriatary file format/DRM scheme).
I kinda figured that was coming when they announced that the next Treo would run Windows Mobile.
I guess it's time to start saving to upgrade to a new PDA phone next year. I'd love to cling to the Treo 650, but I've played with one too many abandoned OSes over the years and my experience is that it's best to just see the writing on the wall and move on.
I've had a Palm since the original Palm Pilot.
Then again, I also had a Newton 2000 and 2100.
Huh. Guess I'll wait to get a new PDA then.
