Damn. I'm glad I have lifetime service too, but that bites.
Buffistechnology 2: You Made Her So She Growls?
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I would be all "eeeevil" except, well, it's not like you're going to pry my TiVo away from me except by way of my hands being dead and cold, so...
if they're having a big problem with people not making it one year - mustn't they be doing something wrong/inadequately?
Not that I know what that is, loving mine like I do.
OK I have a big problem. My computer crashed violently a few days ago. I had to erase and reformat my hard drive, which was very painful, as I lost a lot of stuff that meant a lot to me. Not to mention all the songs in my iTunes. ANYWAYS. I reloaded my programs, and now I can't send email from my house. I could send it from the Apple store, which leads me to believe it's a port problem. I don't understand why the port number would have changed just because I reloaded Apple Mail, which is my mail program, but whatevs.
We get Internet access from my upstairs sister's Airport. Her ISP is Ameritech AND/OR SBC Yahoo, she's not sure. Any idea what my settings should look like in Apple Mail? My mail account is a .mac account, and right now the settings are as follows:
Incoming mail server: mail.mac.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.mac.com:[MY NAME]
Server port: 25 [I'VE CHANGED THIS TO 143 BUT THAT DOESN'T WORK EITHER SO I CHANGED IT BACK]
Authentication: password
PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT I'M DOING WRONG. I AM GOING CRAZY OVER HERE.
Please note that I can receive mail just fine; I just can't send it. I get a "port timed out" message when I try.
Are you using Apple Mail?
Try these settings:
Outgoing mail server: smtp.mac.com
Server Port: 25
✓ Use SSL
Authentication: Password
Username: [YOUR NAME]
Password: [YOUR PASSWORD]
That's how they're set right now, but still, no go.
Are you sure that the username and password are correct? Does your iDisk work? Can you log in here using the same username and password?
Yes, I can log in there. Well, on there it says my username is [myname]@mac.com, whereas in Mail I had it set to just [myname]. But when I tried to add the @mac.com, it just erased it automatically, like it didn't need it. So what now?
How can I tell if my iDisk works?
Try port 587.
