Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

SATA only supports one drive per channel. Most new motherboard are coming with 4 SATA ports on them.
Yeah, I just checked the MB specs [link] There are two ATA-133 heads, and two SATA heads. That'll work nicely.
So for each drive I will need one SATA data cable, and maybe a power adaptor depending on the power supply?
That's correct. You'll need to check that your power supply has the SATA power plug otherwise you'll need to get an adapter.
I ordered a few of these for work and was surprised to discover that they had both the LP4 (old 4 pin power connector) as well as the newer SATA power plug.
If anyone in here is interested, I'm in the midst of another round of house cleaning with regards to technology. I've got a G4/400 that is going to be going in this round. I'm planning on putting it on ebay in the next couple of days but I figured I'd let folks here have at it first.
It's a G4/400 with a DVD ROM drive, 20 GB HD, 80 GB HD, 1 GB RAM, Dual Channel UltraWide ATTO SCSI card, ATA100 PCI card, and it's got OS X 10.3.9 on it.
If anyone here is interested I'll let it go for $399. This beast is heavy ground shipping will probably be around $40-50 as well. It will be going on ebay by Monday I suspect. I'm just in the midst of pulling the 200 GB drive, and the two other 80 GB drives out of it and moving the data off of it.
TiVo's updated their service agreement:
WITH RESPECT TO ANY NEW TIVO SERVICE SUBSCRIPTION ACTIVATED ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER 6, 2005, YOU AGREE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE TIVO SERVICE FOR NO LESS THAN 12 MONTHS (THE "SERVICE COMMITMENT"). IF YOU FAIL TO MEET THE SERVICE COMMITMENT BY CANCELLING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION TO THE TIVO SERVICE (OR IF TIVO TERMINATES YOUR SUBSCRIPTION TO THE TIVO SERVICE DUE TO A BREACH OF THIS AGREEMENT), YOU AGREE THAT TIVO MAY CHARGE YOU A $150 EARLY TERMINATION FEE, AND YOU AGREE TO PAY ANY SUCH EARLY TERMINATION FEE.
oh, evil.
The way things are going with Tivo I'm happier and happier that I just paid for the lifetime service way back before it cost an arm and a leg. I think I only paid $99 for mine. I've also had a Tivo since either 98 or 99.
Damn. I'm glad I have lifetime service too, but that bites.
