The fucking thing survived being dropped out of a car moving at 50 mph! It still continued to work after being driven over - twice!
And yet it can be scratched if you breath on it wrong.
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

You lie!
(And I will continue to believe that until mine gets its first scratch.)
Actually, thanks for reminding me - it didn't come with any sort of case, so I really should get one before using it much more. Currently I've been putting it in the breast pocket of my t-shirts... that have breast pockets.
Yo, Webistas, I got mail from a friend:
I am helping to investigate web-site statisticsmonitoring software or services for Z's site, as the current service isn't entirely satisfactory. If either of you have a recommendation or have friends who have recommendations for the sort of site Z's running, it would be help Mollie out.
Can you help me look like an expert here? Is there any of us who is non-geeky enough to contract site monitoring out rather than doing it him/herself?
Does anyone here have a tablet computer or any advice on buying one? Dave is thinking about getting one eventually.
I've got a Toshiba Tablet computer. It's quite nice. I've been using it for about 3 months now for some of my work.
Can the Firewire power adaptor that came with a 40 Gig (G3) iPod be used on an iPod Nano?
Apple now sells a USB power adaptor that can be used with any iPod, so is the same thing true of the Firewire one?

Probably not. They definitely can't use FireWire to transfer songs and stuff. It's possible that the two pins that provide FireWire power are used, you'll have to plug it in and see if it says that it's charging. Don't get your hopes up, though.

I haven't tried that yet because I'm afraid of damaging the Nano. (Although I suppose I should trust Apple enough that if it doesn't work, at least it shouldn't do any damage.)
eta: Ooh, this site says that a Nano can be charged with either USB or Firewire: [link]
I plugged my Firewire charger into it. No smoke yet.
dang. that's really really awful.
