Does anyone here have a tablet computer or any advice on buying one? Dave is thinking about getting one eventually.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I've got a Toshiba Tablet computer. It's quite nice. I've been using it for about 3 months now for some of my work.
Can the Firewire power adaptor that came with a 40 Gig (G3) iPod be used on an iPod Nano?
Apple now sells a USB power adaptor that can be used with any iPod, so is the same thing true of the Firewire one?

Probably not. They definitely can't use FireWire to transfer songs and stuff. It's possible that the two pins that provide FireWire power are used, you'll have to plug it in and see if it says that it's charging. Don't get your hopes up, though.

I haven't tried that yet because I'm afraid of damaging the Nano. (Although I suppose I should trust Apple enough that if it doesn't work, at least it shouldn't do any damage.)
eta: Ooh, this site says that a Nano can be charged with either USB or Firewire: [link]
I plugged my Firewire charger into it. No smoke yet.
dang. that's really really awful.
Damn. I've had a Tivo since 1999 and this may be the thing that gets me to ditch it.
I'm seeing reports that the function is only supposed to be for pay-per-view things, and has been wonky because of a bug. Hopefully that will prove to be the case.
I found a fuller Web page, and, yup, it's a bug.
The bad news is that TiVo provides full software support for this; the good news is that no broadcast/cable station has requested TiVo use this flag on their material.
Yet.
