Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
$30-ish or below. They're in the same room as the surround-sound system that's connected to the TV etc, so all I really need them for is sounds coming out of the internet. (I could just run a cable from the computer's audio out into the main sound system, but then the "front" speakers would be behind me, which I think would be kind of annoying.)
I have Altec-Lansing speakers now, and they've been great. The ones Rob linked to look like a good bet.
Gotcha. Yeah, I don't have much knowledge on the low priced end of the speaker scale. There are some great sounding ones that I work with but you end up crossing the $100 mark. My home system is hooked up to M-Audio BX-8's, it's really fun listening to internet sounds through them.
Gah. Twice in the last few days my iPod has suddenly rebooted itself while in the middle of playing something. It's never done that before.
It's the third generation (I think) - the 40 gig one that was right before they switchd to the click wheel.
Ugh.
Ok. I've got the DSL modem and wireless network working. I've got my main computer and my laptop seeing each other. But, I can't get Emily's laptop to see my main computer and my laptop. We want her to be able to print through my main computer, so this is desirable. Any suggestions?
Actually, I lied. None of the computers see each other.
bug,
1. Are all of these computers Windows PCs?
2. By "see" you mean you open Network Neighborhood and no other computers appear?
3. Can you connect to the Internet from each computer?
4. If these are Windows XP machines, do you know if Service Pack 2 is applied? This may be firewall related.
Eddie,
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Two are Windows XP (well, one is XP Professional), the other is Windows 2000.
I dunno if I can remember all this crap, but... have you turned on file sharing?
Yeah, I did file sharing when attempting to set up the network.
