Buffy. When I saw you stop the world from, you know, ending, I just assumed that was a big week for you. Turns out I suddenly find myself needing to know the plural of 'apocalypse.'

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

This is what happens when you don't choose your residence well! Thanks for thinking of me, though. You know, I have a vague memory that the CRT I replaced with my current monitor may have been a Samsung as well, and that thing never gave me a day of trouble. Have to keep that in mind.

Our wings are not tired

I have two Samsung 15" LCD's that have been rock solid. I've also got a 15" Viewsonic that has been great. These are on three of my theatre rental machines, so they get abused quite a bit too.

One of the Samsungs is at least 3 years old now.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

Katie, I just took a look at their website and they're offering a $120.00 mail in rebate on a 17"; regular price $399. The rebate takes 4-6 weeks. Free shipping. I don't know if that's reasonably priced to you or not.

I suspect it is, all things considered, though I haven't done any comparative pricing yet. Thanks.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

From Slashdot:

"The new Mazda Sassou while being `cool and promoting a positive state of mind' has a most important feature, that every geek will love. Instead of the classic key it uses a usb flash drive for starting up. The key can also be used to transfer things like driving instructions or music to the car's hard drive."

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh yeah. And very SciFi, too.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

It's a concept car.

What does that mean?

A car where the designers go, "Wouldn't it be cool if a car had this, that and the other thing?" And then they build a car like that and take it to auto shows to gauge interest in the various features, as well as the car's styling. A concept car would typically come way before the actual prototype.

If I had known when I posted that it was a concept car, I probably wouldn't have posted. Most concept cars (and their concepts) don't see the light of day.

eta: Concept cars are often not even drivable.

eta² The Volkswagen New Beetle started out as a concept car to demonstrate a car powered by a fuel cell. The retro-styling came almost as an afterthought. But the styling of the car received such a positive reaction that they decided to produce it as a regular, gas-powered car. But stuff like that rarely happens.
