I have an AVI file that I would dearly like to be able to open in FCP and convert to Quicktime so iDVD can read it. How/where does one install the xvid codec on a Mac (OSX)? (VLC plays this file just fine, btw, but I can't watch it on the TV unless I can get it onto a DVD. I suppose a VCD would work too, but I don't know if my DVD player will play one.)

[Edit: And I just confirmed that once those codecs are installed, my Doctor Who legally obtained AVI file can be read directly by iDVD, without having to do the intermediate Quicktime conversion.]

Yep, mine too. Which is nice, because FCP wanted three hours to encode it. And I'm just not that patient.
