Buffistechnology 2: You Made Her So She Growls?
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
You might also see if you can get someone who has a WiFi laptop to see if they can connect OK to your network (or borrow one).
ah that's a good idea.
How strong of a signal does your laptop say you're getting? There are also programs that will tell you both the signal strength and the strength of any interference, which would be good to know.
Do you know where I could get these?

I have one, but I forget what it's called and I don't have my iBook with me. When I got a sec. I'll try to see if I can find it....
But you should be able to see a general connection strength right now (taking into account both signal strength and interference, and combining them into one value) by the little signal icon at the top of the screen. There's another place that has this if that icon isn't there, but I forget where it is....

Oh yes I know of this icon. I'm not home with the computer in question right now but the icon shows no strength (and the drop-down menu from it does not show my network) unless I'm right near the airport. Then it shows a couple of bars. (Thanks for your help, by the way. This stuff makes me feel like one of those people who doesn't know how to, say, attach a file to an email message.)
If you installed the card yourself make sure that the little antenna lead is completely seated. Sometimes they can be a bit stiff and won't click all the way into place. What model of iBook is it?
What model of iBook is it?
It's a G4.
If the antenna was not completely seated would it be able to connect at all?
Yes, extremely closely to the transmitter as you are describing it would just barely get signal and be able to connect.

hmm...I'll have to check this out when I get home. I really hope it's that easy! Thank you for giving me hope!
Is LJ being fucky for anyone else? When I try to post a comment I can't log in because the field that asks for my name won't actually acknowledge that I've typed anything and now I am grumpy.
I use GoDaddy as my domain registrar. I haven't had any problems, and I think I've been with them for about 2 years.
