Thrive to spite them

I rebooted and the problem still exists. I thought I had stayed on top of all the updates.

I downloaded Firefox and I'm using that.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Anyone have anything good or bad to say about GoDaddy.com? FAQ Wife wants to register a domain and they've got a good deal.

Punishingly Intricate

I'm such an idiot at this. But I set up my iBook and set up the cable internet and set up the wireless stuff (with many calls to Apple and to Comcast and to Apple and ... so on) and I can't get the computer to connect anywhere except downstairs about 5 feet from the Airport thingy.

Apple can't give me any real advice about what to do. I already exchanged the Airport (they couldn't figure out if the original one I had didn't really work or not) and at least it works at all now (it connected once and then not again with the first one). But, you know, I'd really like to be able to use the stupid thing while I'm sitting up in my room!

am very frustrated. and hating of the computers.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I would try to connect to some other wireless network and see if the same problem occurs. If not, then the problem is probably your wireless router or some sort of interference.

??? I only have the one network? I'm not sure what you mean.

And what do I do if it's interference? What is the interference coming from? How do I fix it?

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Anyone have anything good or bad to say about GoDaddy.com?

Jerry Pournelle and Robert Bruce Thompson like them: [link]

Find a cafe or public library that has WiFi. Many places the WiFi is free. There are web sites that let you search for WiFi networks by location.

That I'm not sure about.

It could also be a bad antenna in the iBook (iBooks have a WiFi antenna built in to the screen). That seems unlikely, but that could produce the problem you describe.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I have empirically determined that "finalizing" is necessary to play back DVD-Rs on anything other thasn the recorder they are recorded on. At least, not finalizing leads to my laptop spitting the DVD back out immediately. I am not quite ready to try finalizing again since last time my DVD turned into a coaster.

ah...So I'd have to leave my house.

Apple didn't mention that a bad antenna could be a problem. If they had I could have brought the laptop plus the airport into their stupid store when I was there last weekend. grrrrrrr.

It seems pretty unlikely to me. Repair places tend to only look at the likely causes to problems first.

Wait, did you install the airport card? If so, did you connect the antenna wire to the airport card?
