Hey, don't worry about it. Nest full of vampires, you come get me, okay. Box full of puppies, that's more of a judgement call.

Hey. New board.

Lyra: It seems very likely that you have files named blah_blah.rar, blah_blah.r00, blah_blah.r01, et cetera. In that case, your best bet is to download WinRar (assuming you're on a windows machine, StuffIt can probably do it on a Mac) and use it to open either the blah_blah.rar or the blah_blah.r00 file. Hopefully, a file named something like "gilmore_girls.5x22.a_house_is_not_a_home.hdtv_xvid-fov.avi" should appear in the folder, which you can watch using whatever your media player of choice is. Probably.

EDIT: Your first thing to try is double-clicking the one labelled RAR file and see if anything happens.

Visilurking

okay, the file is compressed in Rar mode. You need a program like winrar [link] Download and install. Then double click on the RAR file and it will uncompress it. That should be your movie/tv file.

ETA: D. Gris - damn your sudden but inevitable x-post.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's what Gris said, LJ -- WinRAR is trivial to use, and will expand the fragments to one big file.

Up with the sun

Thanks, all. Between you guys and my husband, I managed to produce an .avi file with a a picture and everything.

Sometimes, new-to-me technology takes a village.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

So...I got a wireless USB adapter from Amazon, connected it to my Tivo and all is right in the universe. I cannot believe how easy it was. Glad I made sure this adapter works with the Tivo before I bought it.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

And at some point I'll probably have to figure out how to sync my Clie's calendar/contacts/etc. (I was using Agendus, which has both PC and PalmOS versions, but nothing for Mac.)

Jessica, I've been using PocketQuicken (Landware.com) to sync my Clié with Quicken (on my WinME laptop) for several years now. I like it a lot. However, I'm pretty sure it requires the official Palm Desktop hotsync manager app., and it sounds like you don't have the Mac version of that.

eta: the link above says an alternative to Palm's Hotsync is The Missing Sync.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Okay, Tivo to Go...

I am having a couple of issues with it and I'd like buffistas to weigh in.

1) The picture is narrow and not good quality when I watch a program back

2) Is it possible to convert the files to .avi or .mpeg? This service is no good to me if I can't find a free way to arrange my own library.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Posting in the 1% chance that someone knows this....

Anyway, our WiFi in the hotel is fucked, in that we can't use it in our rooms. Oddly, there is a strong signal in the rooms, but DHCP doesn't seem to work there - I get an IP address from the client, not from the DHCP server. I get no gateway or DNS servers, and the nonsensical netmask of 255.255.0.0.

Other places, the signal is weaker, but DHCP works and we can connect to the internet with no some problems....
