iPod devotees rocked by thefts
(Washington Post article on the MSNBC site, so no login required.)
Apparantly iPod theft is way up - don't know if that just a DC problem or nationwide. Thieves used to ignore iPods, but now people who fence stolen goods have found a market for stolen iPods, which is responsible for the recent upswing of iPod iTheft.
The article mostly foucuses on how traumatic it is to have one's iPod iStolen.
(iSorry.)
"Everybody has a lot of memories they associate with music, and musical taste is usually very important to people," said Anita Boss, a forensic psychologist in Alexandria who has counseled crime victims. "You actually have a piece of identity theft here."
She added: "Anytime something is stolen that is so personal, victims are going to have a reaction like that. It's not the same as stealing a coat."
See? Even a fucking
forensic psychologist
says so. You're not doubting a forensic psychologist, are you?
"You actually have a piece of identity theft here."
Except for the part where the entire iDentity is also on the person's computer.
It's not the same as stealing a coat.
No, it's probably even less personal, because your leather jacket, the one that you've spent years getting used to, is a lot harder to duplicate than a fucking iPod. You buy a new iPod, and download the songs again from your computer. Cry me a river.
Or what Jon said.
Thank you, ND. I love you.
On the other hand, Monster Cable for computer stuff? Dumb dumb dumb. It's an error-correcting protocol, peeps.
Thanks for the recs, you guys. I just subscribed to Bloglines and so far it serves my purposes quite well.
Jon, my boyfriend says you and FAQ Girl are insanely cute together.
See, if someone stole my iPod I'd be pissed because I'd need to buy a new one (and my renter's insurance deductible is high). But if they stole my iPod AND my computer? Then I'd be really upset.
"Want!" [link]
t probably wouldn't fit, anyway... And I don't wear jewelry.
Never mind.
Monster Cable just bugs me because there is so much "used car salesmanship" to their stuff. Any well built audio cable will work in most installations, and for the completely out of control prices they charge you are typically just getting ripped off. It is then combined with retailers that ONLY stock the way overpriced cables to people are just getting ripped off. I don't like that.
I also have issues with most Bose products. "Better sound through marketing" should be their slogan. They do make a few great products. Good clock radios, some really nice noise cancelling headphones. But most of their gear? Just way overpriced crap that doesn't perform.
