devldr16
systray
flashksk
wkdetect
when i try to endtask explorer it attempts to do so
then it says it is not responding.
so then i hit the endtask box that pops up...
with all the done it is still there. *thunk*
Daniel C, eye = suck b/c i dont have a spyware checker.
the desktop with the Me does not have access to the 'net
right now. i will see if i can find a program to dl to disk on the laptop
and try it on the desktop.
thankfully my laptop has XP.
on another topic...does anyone know of good program to convert
wmv.files to something that a Mac can read?
eta
Dana, yeah i have done that in the past,
but i wanted to put an end to the madness. *g*
does anyone know of good program to convert wmv.files to something that a Mac can read?
I just use the Windows Media Player for the Mac.

VLC can play most non-protected WMVs, along with just about everything other format under the sun.
there is a Media player version for Mac?
so did NOT know that. i will tell my Mac friend she
NEEDS that so i can send her vids.
thanks, tommyrot.
explorer server save wkcalrem loadqm devldr16 systray flashksk wkdetect
I'm not dcp, but I play .... *ahem*
The only suspicious looking thing on that list is "server" on a Windows ME box. You obviously run Microsoft Works, but do you also use Front Page?
hmmm, dcp thegrommit, i will try to delete that
server thing. unless, um, i shouldnt?
i think i do have Works, but nope havent used Frontpage...
i didnt think i even had that on there.
thanks Rob, i will also give her that link. is there a way to see
if the file is a protected wmv?
halfrek,
loadqm
was one of the programs that was causing defrag to repeatedly restart on my Windows ME laptop.
serial post to add: In the "Close Program" box invoked by CTRL-ALT-DEL, "Explorer" is not the same program as "Microsoft Internet Explorer."
Leave "Explorer" running, Windows ME needs it to operate your system.
dcp, that explains why i could not shut it down. *hee*
what is loadqm? can it be deleted? or stopped?
it wasnt even shutdown by the SafeMode.
and why do these computers have to be such pains in the arses? gah!
Loadqm is a "queue manager" that you can safely disable.
Short term disable:
CTRL-ALT-DEL, single-left-click on loadqm and click the End Task button.
Long term disable:
Go to Start->Run and type in
msconfig
and click Okay.
Click on the "Startup" tab.
Scroll down the list to loadqm and un-check it.
Click the Okay button to exit the System Configuration Utility, and then reboot.
