on another topic...does anyone know of good program to convert wmv.files to something that a Mac can read?

VLC can play most non-protected WMVs, along with just about everything other format under the sun.

Um.

explorer server save wkcalrem loadqm devldr16 systray flashksk wkdetect

I'm not dcp, but I play .... *ahem*

The only suspicious looking thing on that list is "server" on a Windows ME box. You obviously run Microsoft Works, but do you also use Front Page?

thanks Rob, i will also give her that link. is there a way to see if the file is a protected wmv?

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

halfrek, loadqm was one of the programs that was causing defrag to repeatedly restart on my Windows ME laptop.

serial post to add: In the "Close Program" box invoked by CTRL-ALT-DEL, "Explorer" is not the same program as "Microsoft Internet Explorer."

Leave "Explorer" running, Windows ME needs it to operate your system.

dcp, that explains why i could not shut it down. *hee*

what is loadqm? can it be deleted? or stopped? it wasnt even shutdown by the SafeMode.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Loadqm is a "queue manager" that you can safely disable.

Short term disable:
CTRL-ALT-DEL, single-left-click on loadqm and click the End Task button.

Long term disable:
Go to Start->Run and type in msconfig and click Okay.
Click on the "Startup" tab.
Scroll down the list to loadqm and un-check it.
Click the Okay button to exit the System Configuration Utility, and then reboot.

Rob, wouldnt that be in the file properties? how do you tell on a Mac?

dcp, if i do the permanent disable will it screw up anything important? and why do they put that on the machine if it seriously messes up important things like disk defrag or scan disk?

why yes, i am full of....questions
