All is well that ends in pizza.

Unless you have a Wal-Mart nearby.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Alli,

how many jacks does your TV have? I think you should try the chain without the DVD player and see if you get it to work.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I'm confused as to why cable needs to be in two chains in your setup, Alibelle.

FWIW, my cable-->Tivo-->VCR-->TV uses all coaxial cables, and it works just fine.

Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

The problem is is that I only have two AV cables. So, I could hook up the dvd player to the tv using one, and I could hook up the TiVo to the cable box with the other, but I can't then hook up the TiVo to the tv with an AV cable, like the picture in the start up guide. So, currently, the cable box is hooked up to the tv with a coaxial cable, and it is the only thing hooked up to the tv. From the cable box, the VCR player is hooked up, using odd cables that I'm not terribly sure about, but I've been assured it works, and the TiVo is also connected to the cable box, and the DVD player is coming off of that.

So, now, from what you guys have said, I'm going to try to hook up the DVD player to the TV on its own thing, and I'm going to hook up the cable box to the VCR and the TiVo, and then I'll connect the coaxial cable coming off the tv into the TiVo, rather than the cable box. And then I'll cross my fingers and hope it works.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Ali, here's what I'd recommend:

1. Isolate the DVD player.

2. Run the cables (whichever you have) cable box->TiVo->VCR->TV. But I'd get the VCR out of that loop as soon as you have the cables for it. For nothing other than neatness, really. It doesn't break anything.

But doesn't the VCR need to be in that loop in order for the Tivo to record to it? (And for the TV to play tapes?)

Not that I ever do either of those things, but they seem like potentially useful ideas.

I branched my loop. So I should shut up. I had beyond spaghetti. But you can still play tapes if you have the VCR isolated like the TV. You can't record TiVo on it, though.

Thanks, guys. I took the dvd player out. The rest are all hooked up. It didn't work. I think I'll wait until my mom comes home, and can tell me where a flashlight is, which would greatly help this whole business. For now, I at least got it back to the point where it does actually let you watch tv, so it's a good place to leave it for a bit, I suppose.

Thank you!

Hey, all btfnet.net is not working for me -- hasn't since last night.

I am home with a monster cold, and am desperate for some entertainment -- anyone have alternate suggestions? I've been looking at alternate torrent sites, but (Surprise!) many are inop.

I thank you, my nose thanks you, and Elvis, quite possibly, thanks you. Very much.

If I only had a brain...

Please instruct the neophyte. I have a kid who wants an Ipod Mini for his birthday. Am I right in thinking that we can rip the CDs we already own into the Mini, and that we have to buy from Itunes only if we don't own the music?
