Okay, I have a new problem. I only have two sets of AV cables. Is it possible to hook them all up in one long system? I did find two long cables that look like the AV cables, but they only have one little plug on the end, not three. One of them has little black plugs, and the other one has little red plugs.
I'm sorry if this is irritating. I'm beginning to get frustrated, so I'm not sure if I'm even asking correctly.
ETA:
Okay. Will all the machines function properly if the setup goes like this: TV --> cable --> VCR, cable-->TiVo -->DVD player?
The TiVo is not directly connected to the TV, like in the picture, but I didn't have an extra AV cable to make it happen, and the coaxial cable thing on the tv was already attached to the cable box, and I didn't want to undo it to attach the TiVo there, in that way, unless I had information that it would be a good idea. I don't even know if it's a good idea to attach it by coaxial cable, when it says to do that only when you don't have AV jacks on the TV.
Grr. I'm beginning to hate TiVo.
You can't hook them up in one long system unless your DVD player does something with which I'm not familiar -- accept input. Everything else can chain, like Jessica has done, but the DVD flies solo.
So, the dvd player won't work, even as an end of the chain? Because we've been using it hooked up through the VCR. But I could undo it, and go buy another cable tomorrow, or something.
I'm really tired of this problem. I've been fighting with it for the last four and a half hours. Can I just hire someone from Radio Shack to hook it up for me, or something?
When it was connected through the VCR, was it DVD->VCR->TV, or VCR->DVD->TV?
ita is asking the question I would have asked.
Many people find that hooking the DVD and VCR into an RF Modulator like the Jensen [link] DVD-647 works well. The DVD RCA input to it will override the VCR Cable signal when turned on.
There are fancier rigs.
Problem with DVD->VCR->TV is that copy protection inside the VCR can crop up and ruin the viewing.
That is getting too fancy for me, Daniel. My understanding of electronics is really very simplistic. I like color coordinated plugs and cables, for instance, and clear cut step by step instructions. Beyond that I get a little intimidated, though for some reason, I'm often the one left to try and figure it out.
Another issue is that they've put in a new VCR since the last time I was here, and its hook-ups are all different, so I don't really feel like messing with it, since I wouldn't have the faintest clue how to set it back up, if necessary.
Not really fancy, just plug the VCR into one connector, the DVD into another, and the TV into the output.
