A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Sadly, you then will also have to copy music from your HOME computer to your iPod, rather than it automatically syncing, from that moment on.

When you connect it to your home computer, you can easily switch it back to a synching mode.

t edit Ohh! But first, you'll want to use a third party app to copy the new songs from your iPod to the home PC, or else you'll lose the new songs when you re-synch!

So FameTracker's forums are closing.

Looks like a new forum site will be set up here:

If you have your ipod synced to your home computer, then when you plug it into the new computer it should pop up an iTunes dialog box that says something like "iPod IPOD_NAME is already synced to another computer. Do you want to change the syncing to this computer, erasing the songs on it and replacing it with those on this one, switch it to manual mode, or ignore it?" or something to that effect.

this didn't happen when i plugged the iPod into the computer, it happened when i brought up iTunes and went to update songs on iPod. same thing?

playing with ephpod now. maybe i can figure it out in between working.

Hey. New board.

Same thing. For me, iTunes opens automatically when I plug it in, so yeah.

I think that, with ephpod, it may be possible to do some advance syncing across two computers, as long as id3 tags are the same or very similar to avoid duplicates. I'm not certain, though.

If you change it to manual mode, you'll be able to copy the songs from work to your iPod.

how do i do this?

I feel like you are all speaking a different language. really i'm not this slow... *sniff*

this is really going to be a problem if i don't get the syncing thing fixed before i get my computer up and running again...

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Ephpod is an applicable third party app.

how do i do this?

From apple:

Manual Mode. Take total control over the contents of your iPod by dragging individual songs to create your own custom playlists. This lets you decide when you want to update your iPod (it will not be affected by any changes in your music library). To switch to Manual Mode, connect the iPod to your Mac with the FireWire cable, click on the iPod Options button, and select “Manually manage songs and playlists.”

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Maybe it's the 11:38 at night. But I can't really make sense of the Apple Support site.

My iBook is, when I turn it on, either 1) Making the start up sound, going to grey, then to black, or 2) sing a pretty note and flash its light at me while coming up grey and then going black.

It was working earlier. I played snood on it. Gah. Help?

Our wings are not tired

If you've got extra memory in your iBook yank it out and see if the problem goes away. It may be a bad memory chip.

The first place I always check is MacFixit.com. Lots of good stuff.

A few good LJ resources to check are:

The LJ OS X community: [link]

The LJ Macintosh community: [link]

The LJ iBook community: [link]

There's a lot of crossposting between those LJ communities, but there's still a lot of helpful info. Out of the three, the OS X community might be your best bet.
