If you've got your iPod connected to a Mac via Firewire and the Mac is asleep, does the iPod continue charging?
Usually not, since most if not all Macs turn of power to the Firewire port when sleeping.

That makes sense. I've just never run into this before, as I used to sync the iPod to my iBook, which is not allowed to sleep because if it does it never wakes up.

Hmm. Perhaps *I* am an iBook, because I have the same problem. iTeppy.
Why can't PCs charge the iPods too, through Firewire? Or at least fall asleep when cabled. I almost always drain mine down by forgetting to remove it after I sync.
All Macs come with six-pin firewire connections, while PCs typically come with four-pin firewire. The two extra pins are what supply power.

I mean -- damn, that's irritating. I want a new PC.
I've decided on the Tungsten T5, since it's newer, so I expect I'll have more time to obsolescence, and I hadn't noticed that the C didn't have bluetooth. I am all about the bluetooth. I can get a WiFi card if I snap. They don't have Palm bluetooth cards that I can see.

You could buy a Firewire card (assuming that you can find one with six-pin connectors).

Nah, I just feel robbed that I have a PC with integrated Firewire, yet it's all second class third world connectivity. Or I could just remember to disconnect my iPod when done. Whichever.
A powered Firewire hub is a solution to both charging while the host is asleep and hosts with unpowered Firewire ports.
