Spoilers 3: First Mutant Enemy, Now the World
[NAFDA] Spoilers for any and all currently running TV shows. All hardcore spoilage, all the time. No white font.
I'm actually having a problem with
24
in that they find a reason to torture someone in the name of national security every hour.
Bauer in charge of saving the world scares me more than a little.

Damn, that's good shit, Cindy.
Thanks, le nubian. I just googled. The Buffy fandom had such a professional spoiler network, I don't even bother to look for other-show spoilers most of the time, because I got so spoiled. I was surprised I found that so easily.

Hee. To me, that was totally a Buffy-like power shot, at the end of the Chloe guns 'em down episode. Did you catch the are-you-on-crack look Jack gave her this week, I think when she offered to listen if he needed to talk? Comedy gold. Scott had me rewind the TiVo, three times.
Seriously? I mean, I love the guy, but he doesn't have a great track record of actually preventing terrorist attacks. How long was he in office this time before starting a war with China? Ten minutes?
True, but...but...but...step off my Woobie Prez. *sniff* I miss Lady McP, too. When we watch old episodes, every time she comes on the screen, I am compelled to say "Eeeevil."

Yes. It is disturbing, so I mostly don't let myself think about it, because this is really just a shoot 'em up, beat 'em up, get yourself all jacked up kind of show. Earlier this season, I kept waiting for there to be a little learning. Jessica talked me down at one point, I think. Then there sort of was a little learning, with Paul taking the bullet for Jack, but then Paul had to go and die, because Jack needed another guy to be healthy enough to be tortured, and that just ruined it. Jack's so not getting any more of Audrey.

That look was one of the best things I have ever seen on television ever. That was the look Tivo was invented for.
This has been very much The Torture Season, it's true. And there has been learning, if in a very roundabout way -- I'm pretty sure Paul was the only person Jack ever tortured who turned out to be innocent, and now he's dead and it's Jack's fault and now Jack is never, ever, ever getting laid again. So it's not like there aren't consequences.
There's always consequences.

It really was. I almost never laugh out loud at the TV, but I think I laughed every time we rewound it.
So Edgar and Chloe. Is their love so pure?
Who's been tortured so far? Isn't there one CTU employee who was innocent was tortured without much "learning" there?
In fact, it was forever before torture had any benefit.
I'm not 100% against torture, mind you. It looks sexy when it's being done to Jack.

Gotcha. It is still a little spooky that the subliminal message is that if you are Middle Eastern or Chinese, you gots some righteous torture coming.
Jack's so not getting any more of Audrey.
Go, Audrey. Really, Audrey. Step away from the torturer.
Jack is a great character. I hope the writers find some way to confront him with how far he has strayed away from his ethics.

All the non-white people they tortured were shady, and gave up info. No white people have coughed anything up yet -- I don't think the moral is the one you're drawing.
One thing I can say for Jack. He thinks any one individual is expendable to save many, and he definitely includes himself. When Nikita-chick was initiating torture, it was from a privileged position of safety, and she damned well knew it.
Isn't there one CTU employee who was innocent was tortured without much "learning" there?
Yeah, and the Sec of Defense's son. (Though judging by the promo, he may have been less innocent than we thought.) But that wasn't Jack, it was Curtis. Jack only tortures bad guys, and his girlfriend's ex-husband.

Yes, that woman, the pretty brunette analyst that could suffer neither Chloe nor Edgar. She was the one sucking up to the CTU chief (whose daughter killed herself in the CTU clinic).
Yeah, and the Sec of Defense's son. (Though judging by the promo, he may have been less innocent than we thought.) But that wasn't Jack, it was Curtis. Jack only tortures bad guys, and his girlfriend's ex-husband.
And I think Jack got tortured pretty badly this season, or was that from an earlier season I was just watching this season? Mmm. Maybe.
Hey, did Behrooz die? Did he die in a we-saw-the-corpse way. I know they made the exchange, and I figured Behrooz wasn't long for this world, but I can't remember seeing him die.
Discussion about how non-non-whites have got the stuff to withstand torture seems to be in line with an Amurrican Gots The Rights! agenda/message.
I read somewhere (Kristin nee Wendy?) that Behrooz will be back.
