I know nothing of the young lad. I'll trust that he has the acting chops. He looks young to me. Then again I was awfully fond of CE and DT grew on me big time.
It would have been fun to have a bold move in another direction with a selection of a woman. Paterson Joseph would have been real easy on the eyes too. Ah well, I'll be watching.
Pete is very miffed about the fact that they keep casting younger and younger for the Doctor. I say the new boy looks decorative.
oh god, he comes pre-packaged with an already annoying physical twitch. I'll of course be reserving judgment for when I see him in action for a couple of episodes.
I suppose the hopeful thing about a youthful actor is that it could represent the Doctor shrugging off his angst of old (erm, of Ten and Nine) and re-embracing life with a more sunny outlook and less anger. ::crosses fingers::

Casting young doesn't bother me if the kid has the chops. I mean, Eccleston was 39-40 when he was cast and Tennant in his mid-thirties, so it's not like there was a hugely appreciable difference.
I kind of like the idea that the Doctor doesn't necessarily have to look old in order to project wisdom.
Then again, I'm listening to the Benjamin Button soundtrack, so that may be coloring my opinion somewhat.
Tennant is younger than I am, so I jumped that hurdle already; however, Matt Smith is young enough to be my son, albeit of a mid-teen mother. Still, technically... That's weird! To me. I don't really care that he's younger if, as Laura and Barb say, he's got the chops.
Now I'm off to watch videos and read articles about the youngster.

BTW, do "summer casting" rules apply to this? Meaning, we can write of it openly in black font in Boxed Set in one month's time?
He'd better bring a heaping pile of more-gravitas-than-his-age-would-suggest to the role. I've spent 2 years trying to watch Jewel Staite play an allegedly competent chief of medicine, and despite loving the actress and knowing she's extremely talented, it just Does. Not. Work.
Who'll be Twelve, Daniel Radcliffe?
