This does fit a theory I've always had that the Doctor's get younger the more incarnations they assume. Granted, there's a lot of wiggle room for what age they seem between Tom Baker and Eccleston, but generally speaking, they seem to go towards younger.

I don't know who Matt Smith is, but in the few pictures I've seen on websites, he's got an enormous hunk of hair covering the right side of his face. I mean it almost blocks his right eye. Is that for a particular part or is the actor channelling Veronica Lake?
