Jungle or beach? leading two different sets of how a society can formed. Yes, there are question about Kate (what did she do?), Jack's daddy issues; Locke'unshakeable acceptance of what is happening, but the story arc needs a few more columns for the arc to be complete. so the second half - this is where the stage will become so the story can keep moving forward. forward to survival. True exploration will be dealt with next seson. however the second half of season 1, brings us to the end of Lord of the Flies - which society/shelter will survive ...in this story arc we will be SHOCKED on which major character dies. Good Stuff is coming after the hiatus

I am not sure I'd be SHOCKED by anything after seeing Buffy "kill" Angel. However, killing Walt would be really fucked up.
