Are the newer fans going back and watching old Dr Who episodes or are they mainly focusing on the current show. Or does it depend on what kind of fan they are?

Spoilers 3: First Mutant Enemy, Now the World
[NAFDA] Spoilers for any and all currently running TV shows. All hardcore spoilage, all the time. No white font.
There is *so. much. fic* out there about how Sarah Jane and Reinette and all the other companions Just Don't Count compared to Rose.
Oh, as usual, dear.
It depends. There are many people who focus solely on the romantic relationship and who don't go back and watch the old stuff. Old School vs. New School each have their different canonical crazy. The Old School crazy says "The Doctor is asexual and you can't convince me otherwise"; the New School crazy says "Rose is the Most Important Thing Ever and theirloveissoeternal."
Every time New Who has showed the Doctor caring about somebody other than Rose, reams of fix-it fic pour out in which he reassures her that the other person wasn't really all that important.
So, what do we think the craxy will start sending the Beeb in order to get Rosie back (a lal blue gloves and apples)? And is this something they've had to deal with before?
Well, most of them should have gotten the hint from Eccleston dying. But nooooooo.

Well, roses seem like a possibility.
I'll miss Rose, but yeah. The show's survived losing the lead 9 times now. The companions can certainly be expected to come and go.
And is this something they've had to deal with before?
Well, the last time Who was on the air for an extended period of time, online craxyfen didn't exist.
I wonder if there will be protesters outside my building, like when BBCA stopped running Eastenders. (Which was just kind of pathetic, as it was raining, and there were only 4 of them, and the BBCA offices weren't even in New York back then.)

I wasn't thinking so specifically of Dr. Who, just TV fandom in general. Given what you said in Lite about how the BBC doesn't seem to believe there's such a thing as spoilers, and the brevity of "seasons" in general, I'm just curious if fandom is significantly different over there as well.
The new fans do know about the premise of the show -- regenerations and companions --- right? Are they just thinking that this go around is different and everything on the show will stay the same forever?
I haven't read a lot of Dr Who fic because I keep running into the craxyfans.
