And is this something they've had to deal with before?
Well, the last time Who was on the air for an extended period of time, online craxyfen didn't exist.
I wonder if there will be protesters outside my building, like when BBCA stopped running Eastenders. (Which was just kind of pathetic, as it was raining, and there were only 4 of them, and the BBCA offices weren't even in New York back then.)

I wasn't thinking so specifically of Dr. Who, just TV fandom in general. Given what you said in Lite about how the BBC doesn't seem to believe there's such a thing as spoilers, and the brevity of "seasons" in general, I'm just curious if fandom is significantly different over there as well.
The new fans do know about the premise of the show -- regenerations and companions --- right? Are they just thinking that this go around is different and everything on the show will stay the same forever?
I haven't read a lot of Dr Who fic because I keep running into the craxyfans.

Sure they know, but never underestimate the power of the craxy to say that
their
OTP is the real true forever never-gonna-change OTP, and if the actual canon says otherwise, well, actual canon is a poopyhead.

That wasn't me -- I think it was Mickey or Jars.
(And in a weird bit of synchronicity, I just scrolled past Billie Piper's name on a TOTP shotlist from 1998.)
the New School crazy says "Rose is the Most Important Thing Ever and theirloveissoeternal."
Unfortunately the show's producers seem to number among this lot. I mean, I quite enjoyed Billie Piper's portrayal in most eps I've seen (currently up to "The Christmas Invasion"), but there's been a bit too much telling how fantastic Rose is on the part of other characters rather than showing it via her own actions.

Whoops, my bad. It was Jars.

I do have to say the literal

a bit. Then Jack got left behind and CE said his farewells and I didn't mind so much.
Old School vs. New School each have their different canonical crazy. The Old School crazy says "The Doctor is asexual and you can't convince me otherwise"
LALALALA THAT IS NOT CRAZY!!!
Ahem. Pardon me, my tinfoil hat needs adjusting.
He danced, Plei. He danced.
