Still think they're all just lab rats. I'm wondering if there's been some kind of plane crash, ship wreck, etc. every 540 days? Didn't Desmond say he'd been there three years? That's approx. 1080 days.

Maybe I'm missing the point.
The filmstrip said that they were supposed to have a partner for the button-pushing, alternating shifts so they could each get a decent amount of sleep, maybe. I assume that's what Locke was talking about, esp. with the line about "I'll take the first shift."
